Where Will Your Next Car be Designed?

Blending digital images with a real-world view is the objective of a new system from Canon. The “mixed reality” system is intended to give designers the ability to easily produce virtual mockups, create online walk-throughs and shorten lead times.Users wear head gear that contain two small cameras that provide video of the “real world.” A connected computer then blends the video signal with digital images. Sensors measure position and movement of the user so the blended images overlay correctly.
The end result is a virtual space allowing industrial designers to adapt product specs, change manufacturing processes or even modify a factory floorplan earlier in the design process.
